A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS:

A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS:

The proverb a picture is worth a thousand words means a picture may convey an idea more quickly and effectively than the written word. Writers of texts that describe concepts involving imagery or abstract thoughts need many words to get their points across. A photograph, artwork, drawing or graphics can often demonstrate an idea with one look, much more quickly than a narrative can explain things.

A photograph or artwork may depict emotion, enabling the viewer to perceive the essence of the story without a word being written or spoken. Readers of articles or books must engage in a large amount of effort to mentally process the words in order to understand what the writer is trying to convey. Someone who simply views an image can capture the essence of the meaning of that image without a lot of explaining.

5 Reasons Why Images Speak Louder Than Words

A picture is worth a thousand words. Ever wonder why that is?

The first things that pop up in our mind are some of the more complex paintings we saw at a museum. Why, we could says a thousand words about a single painting easily!

    1. Engagement.

    2. The Power of Visuals.

    3. Imagine the Impact.

    4. Pictures Are Universal.

    5. Humans Are Visual Creatures.

    Why do we use images?

A large percentage of the human brain dedicates itself to visual processing. Our love of images lies with our cognition and ability to pay attention. Images are able to grab our attention easily, we are immediately drawn to them. Bright colors capture our attention because our brains are wired to react to them.

    Images help educate

At school we are expected to scour our textbooks and memorise sentences word-for-word. This isn’t always the best tactic. Many of us are visual learners, who memorise content more effectively if it happens to be image-based.The images, diagrams, and figures in infographics make the learning process more fluid

    Images help tell a story

Sometimes scientific findings, even the important ones, just don’t seem personal to us as individuals. People may not feel concerned about a certain disease or condition because they are not emotionally invested in it. Now, this isn’t because we’re all stone hearted monsters. It’s because sometimes these findings just aren’t reaching out to us in the way they ought to.

    Do-It-Yourself

Just because you’re not an artist, doesn’t mean you’re banned from doodling. Art and science are not mutually exclusive. Sketching out a diagram, comic strip, or illustration, can help provide yet another channel to explain complex work.

How we encode information in our mind is important.

There are many ways information can be encoded but these methods generally rely on either visualizations — remembering information as images, or verbalization — remembering information as words
