NIMMADHI PROPERTY MANAGEMENT is committed to the safety and well being of our Associations, clients, tenants and our valued employees. Hurricane season will begin on June and will continue throughout the end of November. Each approaching storm challenges and tests our skills and emotions.

During the next couple of months, we are committed to sending you important emails with useful information for families to be ready and prepared for any hurricane or storm that may come. In addition, you can visit the Emergency Preparedness section on our website to find valuable information.

Residents spend hundreds of dollars every year purchasing hurricane supplies such as bottled water, gasoline, and nonperishable food items. In many cases, people wait until a storm threatens South Florida to make a last-minute rush to local stores to purchase supplies, usually resulting in a large expenditure.

Remember, it’s more cost-efficient to build your kits little by little, using what you already have at home whenever possible.

Here are some tips for building your Emergency Supplies Kit:

    • Purchase an extra can or box of nonperishable food or other supplies for your hurricane kit during each trip to the grocery store, try to make use of coupons and sales when available.

    • Combine resources with family, friends, and neighbors to save money buying in bulk, then divide the items up.

    • Fill containers 2/3 full with tap water and keep them in your freezer for ice after a storm.

    • Develop an Emergency Communication Plan with your family members.

Properly pruning trees and shrubs before a hurricane approaches can reduce the debris generated during a storm. Proper tree pruning also increases the likelihood that a tree can weather a storm.

Make sure to consult or hire a certified and licensed arborist prior to pruning trees, and to have the approval of the board and the county if applicable.

    DURING A HURRICANE:

    • Stay away from low-lying and flood prone areas.

    • Always stay indoors during a hurricane, because strong winds will blow things around.

    • Leave mobile homes and to go to a shelter.

    • If your home isn’t on higher ground, go to a shelter.

    • If emergency managers say to evacuate, then do so immediately.

    AFTER A HURRICANE:

    • Stay indoors until it is safe to come out.

    • Check for injured or trapped people, without putting yourself in danger.

    • Watch out for flooding which can happen after a hurricane.

    • Do not attempt to drive in flooding water.

    • Stay away from standing water. It may be electrically charged from underground or downed power lines.

    • Don’t drink tap water until officials say its safe to do so.
