    Vastu Tips for Kitchen

    Vastu Shastra is a form of architecture conforming to the traditional norms according to the Hindu system. It is also known as the science of architecture. Kitchen is the most effected area of house from where all kind of energies prevails while an expert Vastu consultant would surely identify about the adverse situation of house if kitchen is placed incorrectly. This important part of house must be placed on its corresponding place.

    Health Issues:

    The family members often suffer from mild or severe health issue because the energies in the kitchen are not balanced.

    Direction:

    The position of the kitchen should not be under or above the puja room, toilet or bedroom. It should ideally be in the South-East corner of the main building or flat. The main kitchen platform should be in the East or South-East corner of the house and the stove or gas burner should be placed in the South-East, a few inches away from the wall and not right in front of the main door of the kitchen. If there is a dining table in the kitchen it should ideally be placed in the North-West or the West side.

    For keeping electrical appliances such as microwaves, mixer grinder etc. the extension of the kitchen platform in an L shape should be used. This placement is highly auspicious. The storage for all the food grains, utensils, the overhead cupboard should always be on the Southern and the western walls and not on the Northern and the Eastern walls.

    The exhaust fan should be installed either in the Northwest corner or the South wall. The door of the kitchen should never face the door of the toilet.

    The wash basin (sink) of the platform should be in the north-east corner as far as possible. The pitcher for the drinking water and related utensils should be placed in the North-East or the North side of the kitchen.

    Even if we ignore the Vastu aspect of it for a moment, ventilation in a kitchen is an extremely important feature, especially if you feel uncomfortable in closed spaces.

    The early soft lights of the sun are very beneficial for our health. They also brighten up the kitchen and look beautiful. Moreover, the rays of the sun in the kitchen can reduce the use of electricity. Windows help in ventilation too, and it is better for your kitchen. There should be one or two windows or air vents in the East and the West directions of the kitchen. An exhaust fan installed in this vent would be very useful.

    Position of Refrigerator:

    If you are planning to keep the refrigerator in the kitchen, it should be placed in the South-East, South, West or North directions. It should not be placed in the North-East direction. If it is in the South-West direction, it should be a foot away from the corner, so that the place is not obstructed.

    Flooring:

    The flooring should ideally be ceramic tiles or marble tiles. It is better to choose ceramic tiles as they are mostly scratch proof and last longer than most others.

    Cleaning the kitchen slab, utensils and the floor is hygienic and also in line with Vastu principles. Cleaner spaces give a positive vibe and sort of recharge people living in the house. It is also believed that people living in cleaner spaces are more happy and stress-free than those who don’t.

    Wall Colours:

    Vastu for kitchen colour suggests that you choose vibrant shades like yellow, orange, and red.
